Rachel was inspired by her interests in nature and drawing to pursue scientific illustration at UW after completing her B.S. in Biology. She hopes to continually improve her technique in order to capture the wonders the outdoors have brought to her and sees illustration as a catalyst to seek new experiences.

The limpet shell was one of my favorite projects because I’ve always loved the ocean, and I really enjoyed working on scratch board. It was different and fun to work in reverse, revealing the image as I scratched away the ink to add the white.
Drawing things found in nature makes me appreciate how complex an object can be, and I have to remind myself to not lose sight of the forest for the trees
