Marly Beyer
[email protected] marlybeyer.com Marly grew up in Southern California. Her art and illustration are heavily influenced by the plants, animals, and textures of the American West. She loves the process of drawing and especially enjoys trying to capture the weird creations of the crazy desert. Aloe
Aloe dorotheae Watercolor 10" x 14" I’ve been homesick for the desert since I moved to the Northwest 11 years ago. My house is full of cacti and succulents that remind me of the landscape where I grew up. I knew I wanted a desert plant for my main image and chose to illustrate this aloe because of the beautiful red mottling on the leaves. Aside from the nostalgia factor, I love how strange desert plants are. They seem like spiky aliens compared to the moss and mushrooms (which are also amazing) of the Pacific Northwest. |
I'm inspired by weird plants, large animals, earth tones, big spaces and little details.
